Oriental Lilies

Oriental lilies have become increasingly popular, due to their large, blooms and heavy, sweet perfume. Oriental lilies are larger with more dramatic appearance than Asiatic lilies and have a sensational fragrance. Among the two most popular varieties of oriental lilies are the Stargazer Oriental Lilies and the White Casa Blanca Oriental Lilies. One thing to keep in mind is that as oriental lilies open there will be "pollen sticks" (anthers) that you should remove as soon as is practical. If left on they will shed an orange rust colored pollen that can stain clothing.

ORIENTAL LILIES

Arranging Oriental Lilies
: The intrinsic beauty of oriental lilies makes for exotic flower arrangements. The blooms are large and more dramatic in appearance than Asiatic lilies, and have a heavy, sweet perfume. The flowers may be two or as many as six branching blossoms to a lily stem. Stargazer lilies and White Casa Blanca lilies are the most popular oriental lily varieties. They have an exotic appeal and combine well with most other flowers, adding a glamorous touch to the arrangement.

Caring for Lilies
:
• Oriental lilies are heavy water drinkers. Make sure to check the water level daily and replace with fresh water and more flower food if necessary.
• Keep in mind that as oriental lilies open, there will be pollen sticks (anthers) that you should remove as soon as possible. Lily pollen can stain clothing and furniture. As flowers open, continue to remove the anthers.
• Lilies bruise easily, so handle them with care. The blooms open in succession, and you can snip off spent flowers close to the main stem.
