TULIPS
Description: Tulips are among the most popular spring flowers
of all time. Tulips rank third in popularity next to the rose and
chrysanthemum. Tulips are believed to have emerged in the Middle
East nearly a thousand years ago, as a symbol of the Turkish empire.
Tulips closely resembled the headgear worn by people in Turkey.
The word turban was written as “toliban” and this eventually
became “tulipa” in Latin.
Tulip Flower Meanings: Red tulips are a great Feng
Shui flower to display at home and are believed to bring fame. Pink
tulips were a craze in the 17th century, especially in Holland.
This was the time when “tulipomania” gripped most of
Europe, and fortunes and possessions were sold for tulips. Pink
tulips symbolize perfect happiness and confidence. Yellow tulips
symbolize cheer, happiness, and sunshine. Orange tulips convey feelings
of warmth, happiness, and fascination.
Arranging and Caring for Tulips:
• Leave your tulips in the wrap and trim about an inch of
the stems. Place the wrapped tulips in a vase for about an hour,
to ensure that the stems are sturdy and take in water better. Make
sure you feed them fresh water daily.
• Tulips continue to grow after cutting. Leave room for growth.
• Tulips tend to bend and turn towards light. To straighten
the bent tulips, wrap the stems tightly in damp newspaper, secure
with an elastic band, and stand in deep, lukewarm water with light
directly above. Leave for a couple of hours.
