LILIES
Description: One of the oldest flowers in history, lilies
are hailed as one of the most popular flowers in ancient Jewish
civilization. They have been cultivated for nearly 300 years and
are a symbol of chastity and virtue in Christianity. In Feng Shui,
lilies symbolize summer and abundance. To the Chinese, they symbolize
eternal love.
Types of Lilies: Lilies come in many varieties.
Popular varieties are the Oriental Lily, the Yellow Asiatic Lily,
the Pink Stargazer Lily, the Calla Lily, the White Calla, the Sympathy
Lily, and the Peruvian Lily.
Lilies Flower Meanings: Lilies generally signify
purity and sweetness, white, virginity and innocence, pink, wealth
and prosperity. Yellow, feminine sexuality.
Caring for Lilies:
• Lilies are heavy water drinkers. Make sure to check the
water level daily and replace with fresh water and more flower food
if necessary.
• Lily pollen can stain clothing and furniture, so it is important
to carefully remove the anthers (the orange pollen-coated tips at
the end of the stamens) with tissues before displaying the bouquet.
As flowers open, continue to remove the anthers.
• Lilies bruise easily, so handle them with care. The blooms
open in succession, and you can snip off spent flowers close to
the main stem.
